“Help-Portrait was founded by celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart and Kyle Chowning in 2008. Their mission is to empower photographers, hairstylists and makeup artists to use their skills, tools and expertise to give back to their local community.”
This is my 2nd year participating in this event. The location that these portraits were taken at is the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center. “HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center provides services for at-risk youth that are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. The Youth Center motivates residents towards reaching self-sufficiency by providing the training and skills to further their education, employment, social and life skills.”
These kids were so grateful for being treated to makeovers and professional portraits for the day. I was honored that I was able to use my skill to provide them with something so meaningful. A week after the shoot, the teens are presented with two actual prints from the day as well as all of the digital files from the many photographers that took part in the day.
I just loved the guy below. His 2 photos are some of my favorites from the day. The first one shows his silly side and the second one shows into his soul.
To get involved with volunteering opportunities or to even donate to the center, just click here. With the proper help and guidance these kids can have such a bright future and overcome any obstacles that have been put in their path.
