Calico Basin Wedding Vegas

Sharing the absolutely amazing Calico Basin Wedding in Vegas of Vanessa & Dave.

Their Love Story

Here are some stories about our relationship so far:

How we meet: In the modern way, we meet over the internet thanks to the OkCupid algorithm. On our first date Dave drove an hour from Geelong to the Rice Queen restaurant in Melbourne, where Vanessa surprised him by ordering the vegetarian banquette. As time later revealed Dave is a devout carnivore and has not eaten a bite of tofu since.

When we knew we loved each other: Early in our relationship Vanessa traveled to Korea for a 6-week work trip. During this time we would chat on the phone for hours almost every night. This time apart made both of us realize that we had something special and wanted to be part of each other’s lives forever.

Proposal: While walking home in the early hours of the morning after a big night out the conversation turned to the future. Although we had talked about getting married for a while, we didn’t think we would take the step until coming back from our overseas trip. However, overcome with emotion Dave got down on one knee, took out an imaginary ring and proposed.

Qualities we love about each other:

David: I love her optimism, open mindedness, resilience, intelligence and her unwavering support for me in all of my endeavors. Having her in my life makes me a better version of myself.

Vanessa: I love his open mindedness and sense of adventure. I love his patience, kindness and support for others. And I love our endless conversation that challenge me and help me see things from different perspectives.

We are walking each other down the aisle to symbolize the life we are starting together

Overseas travels: During their first year living together David and Vanessa experienced many ups and downs. During one of their difficult periods Vanessa organised a picnic in their local park. Over a lunch of champagne and smoked salmon the couple talked about all the things that were affecting them and their relationship. One of the issues that arose was David’s desire to travel and a feeling that life was passing him by. As the flow of champagne continued, the thought of taking some time off work arose. By the bottom of the third bottle of champagne, the decision was made to take a year off work to travel around the world. That lunch and that important decision has lead both of them to today, where they have spent the last nine months together travelling, growing and loving each other.

The Wedding Day

Vanessa & Dave arrived to Las Vegas a couple weeks before their wedding, coming straight from Burning Man. Since they had been traveling for quite some time, it made sense for them to arrive early and take care of all of the finishing touches.

There were so many amazing stories and personal touches to their wedding. Vanessa’s 3 bridesmaids are all her sisters. Instead of flowers, she picked them out a handmade fan in Vietnam. In Vietnam, she also hand picked out the fabrics that her mother and aunt would use to make the bridesmaid dresses from. Vanessa’s metallic leather jacket was also hand painted by her on the back where it said “Till Death” with skeleton hands.

I could seriously write for an hour about the day and the personal touches and everything in between. But lets just check out these photos.

Vanessa & Dave did a pre wedding shoot at the Neon Museum which you can check out here.
