Today I am sharing a Bellagio Terrace Fountain Wedding of Karen & Jason. These two prove that you can have a classic formal Vegas style wedding ceremony with lots of fun and time for non traditional photos in town.
Their Story:
We planned our special day to take place on our 5th anniversary of our first date. As we’re from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, we looked around for local venues, but nothing really felt like something we’d want to do. Vegas came up as a fun idea, which we quickly agreed would be best for us. Plus, we’d get a nice vacation out of it. We’re not big fans of the cold or the heat, so February weather in Vegas sounded the most perfect temperature; ideal for our big day!
About the Groom: Jason has a passion for fantasy baseball. His handmade nudie suit includes baseball stitching alongside the back waist of his coat. He also has baseball stitch on his wedding band. He loves his country music – his favourite artists being Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Steve Earle. So in classic country fashion, Karen convinced him to get a custom made nudie suit for the big day; after all, most brides buy an extravagant dress that they will only wear once, so why shouldn’t the groom indulge too?
About the Bride: Karen is proudly Indigenous from the Cree territory of Eeyou Istchee. She and Jason spent most of their engagement while long-distance (15 hour drive apart!) while she worked for the Chief of her home community. As an ambitious woman, Karen is always immensely grateful to have Jason, a supportive and loving life partner, as she is currently furthering her education at the University of Ottawa.
About us as a couple: We have many characteristics that make us very different people, yet somehow we mesh so perfectly. These differences have made our relationship rich, fun, and full of surprises. For example, our vastly different tastes in music have expanded our shared record collection significantly and have made us open our ears to new music and concert experiences. 🙂 We also adore our wiener dog, Bowie. Since we aren’t bringing him to Vegas, we are incorporating him into our wedding by having a miniature version of him sitting by our cake.
Our proposal story: I (Karen) was home with Jason for a week long visit (we were long-distance at the time). It was a random day in May and both of us were kind of lounging that day, both of us didn’t shower or bother to go out that day. Jason went outside to mow the lawn and he was super sweaty so he was cooking dinner with his shirt off. I was super lazy that day, didn’t shower, no makeup, had my hair up in a messy bun. Shortly after Jason served dinner at our kitchen island, he got down on one knee when I had my mouth full of food! I thought he was joking! I really did not expect it. It was the biggest, happiest surprise of my life. I thought to myself, “wow, he must really love me if he’s proposing while I look like this” lol. I accepted, got down on my knees with him, hugged him hard, and cried tears of joy. We then started calling our family and friends while we ate the rest of our supper. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal. It was 100% us, nothing staged or over-the-top. Just the two of us, alone, sitting at the kitchen island, sharing a nice dinner that we will never forget.
The Wedding Day:
The couple got married in their Suite at the Bellagio. It was an easy walk downstairs to the ceremony location. Jason did a special dance down the aisle, it was great. The ceremony was intimate and emotional and ended with the fountains going off right in front of the couple and guests. After everyone gave hugs and congratulations, the couple got into their rented vintage car and we took a drive to downtown, grabbed some pizza, ate it in front of a strip club, and then finished up at Circus Circus. They were able to incorporate all that they wanted in the day. After all was done for photos, they had an intimate reception in their suite at the Bellagio.
