Las Vegas is a great destination for a winter wedding.  Temperatures are usually much higher then in other parts of the country.  If you want that snowy mountain look, Mt Charleston is less than an hour away!

Plum and Grey are a close second for my favorite choice.  The mixture of purples and greys together just make magic.  It has a modern look and either color can be used for dresses and the men’s accessories.  Florals are an easy find because there are

Olive and Black is probably my favorite of the three.  There are so many options in these shades.  The greenery alone can be incorporated in so many amazing ways.  Olive matches so many colors and it looks great on almost all skin tones.

Navy & Marsala are a true classic.  These colors just scream fall and winter.  They are rich bold colors and have a wide variety of florals to match.

A little chalkboard-These are super cute and versatile.  Make sure to bring some chalk and you can write some cute little phrases on this.  You can even write your names, the date of the wedding, or whatever else you would like.  They sell these at most craft stores.

Balloons-You can get creative with the balloons too.  You can get the really big ones, you can get mylar ones that are shaped like hearts or anything for that matter.  You can get creative with the colors too.

Ice Cream Cones-If you are doing your shoot somewhere where they have them for sale  it is a quick easy thing to incorporate.  You can each have your own or share one.

If you’re a coffee lover like me you can also have coffee mugs, paper cups from your favorite shop, or even do part of your shoot in a coffee shop.

A cute calendar page with your wedding date circled on it.

A cute sign about love.  They sell all kinds of plaques, signs, etc at craft stores and even on etsy.

A vintage camera. (I have one I can bring if you want, just let me know)

Flowers

Wooden Letters-The first letter of each of your names or the first letter of the groom’s last name.

Pets-If you guys have any pets that can leave the house they are great to incorporate.

Umbrellas or Parisols

Swirly Lollipops or any cool looking candy

Cupcakes

You can also spruce up your outfits by wearing hats, scarfs, awesome shoes, or hair accessories.

Most importantly though, make the shoot about you!

One of the questions I get asked most for portrait sessions, especially families, is what to wear.

Wearing clothes that fit your personality is very important.  Comfortability is also very important because you cant be expected to look comfortable if you dont feel that way and cant move.

I always advise against being to matchy matchy.  The same exact colors and shirts isnt really the way to go.

What you should really strive for is wearing complimentary clothing.  Wear colors from the same family.  So each person can still show their individual style, but coordinate with the rest of the group.

One of my favorite props was at the trash the dress session with Valerie.  Her husband brought a Mexican Wrestling mask, so AWESOME.  I never would have thought of that, and it turned out so great on the photos.

So, before your shoot, sit back and think about all the people who are going to be in the pictures and what some things might be that you could bring.  If nothing comes to mind, don’t stress, you really do not have to bring anything but yourselves.

A few ideas for various types of shots are listed below to get your brain going.

Engagement:
-The ring of course.
-Balloons – Maybe in your wedding colors?
-A handmade sign with something painted on it, like the date for save the dates, or a cute little saying.
-Is there something you enjoy as a couple? Riding bikes? Going to the movies? Reading books or getting coffee?  There are so many ideas just in that, your bikes, some popcorn buckets, your favorite books, your favorite coffee shop’s cups.

Maternity:
-Any handmade items that have been made for the baby.
-Ribbon in coordinating color of baby’s sex.
-Wooden blocks to spell out something like baby, or the name.
-Little booties

Baby/Children:
-Their favorite toy(s)
-A special blanket
-A hat or sunglasses
-A tricycle
-A wagon
-Finger Paints

Family:
-If the family is into sports, each member could bring the corresponding item to hold that goes with their sport, like a baseball, or football.
-Umbrellas
-A picnic basket with blanket if shoot is done outdoors

The list goes on and on.  Anything can be used as a prop pretty much and sometimes they really make the pictures stand out.

This post is specifically about what you should wear to your engagement shoot or anytime couples shoot.

1- You will want to make sure that what you wear is something that you are comfortable in and portrays you. You dont want to wear something you dont feel good in, because that will translate into your photos. Also, you may be moving in weird positions or climbing over things to get that perfect shot, and you want to make sure you are comfortable.

2- Options are great. Formal clothes can look oh so fabulous in pictures. We all know that formal clothes can be quite uncomfortable at times, but go ahead and bring them anyways. We can take a few shots in these, and then get back to something more comfortable.

3- You and your fiance/partner will want to be wearing clothes in the same category of formality. You do not want one to be dressed like they are going to a cocktail party while the other one is dressed very casual.

4- Do not match exactly, but complement each other. You dont want to both be wearing the exact same solid color top. You will want to wear colors that are in the same family, like bold or pastel, fall or spring. You can both wear the same color, but they should be of a different shade.

5- Accessorize but not overboard. Colorful accessories can make a photo really pop, but you dont want there to be too much distraction from you.

6- Shoes, I LOVE SHOES, a great pair of shoes can really make your outfit pop.

Things to avoid:
-All White tops
-Big Logos
-Very busy prints
-Purses (They can get in the way)
